We are informed that you have received notification from The British North Borneo (Chartered) Co., that a claim had been submitted locally on our Company's behalf for 18.099.00 (Borneo) in respect of a shipment of firewood purchased by our Company as agents for the Hong Kong Government and consigned to the latter by steamer which cleared Sandakan on the 6th December 1941.

We are informed that the ship, m.v. "FORAFRIC", was lost, presumably by enemy action, and we have now received from the Master of the ship details of the cargo in which we are interested, as follows :-

2,395 Tons Firewood = 40, 236.00 piculs

1, 490 Bags Charcoal =

he further states :-

2,217.47 piculs

"The Master's Copy of the Bill of Lading (which is

not signed) two other Bill of Lading Forms were signed and enclosed in separate covers to be conveyed to me to the Consignees and Owners. The Consignees, as you probably are aware, were the Hong Kong Government; and the cover addressed to them containing the original B/L., was to
